More Men Are Turning To Surgery To Meet Their Cosmetic Needs

With the advancement of procedures, options and plastic surgery becoming less of a taboo topic, it’s not surprising that more men are feeling open to exploring surgical options to meet their aesthetic needs. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery listed the number of cosmetic procedures performed on men as having increased by over 325 percent since 1997. So, what are the most common procedures? The top five surgical procedures listed for men in 2015 were: Liposuction, Nose Surgery, Eyelid Surgery, Male Breast Reduction, and Facelift.

Non-surgical options are on the rise as well with medical grade skin care products, chemical peels, laser facial and photofacial (IPL) treatments being increasingly more common. There are so many treatment options available, so if you’re looking to improve your appearance or simply wanting to reduce the typical signs of aging, there’s never been a better time than now for fulfilling your surgical or non-surgical cosmetic needs.

How Soon After Having My Baby Can I Get a Mommy Makeover?

Many mothers struggle with the weight gain and body distortions that come with pregnancy. The effects of these body changes can leave the mother feeling self-conscious and vulnerable about what their body now looks like. Luckily, there are surgical options that can drastically improve the post-baby body. The Mommy Makeover can include,

Breast Augmentation: Breast augmentation can be done using silicone gel breast implants, saline breast implants or anatomical breast implants. The implants will give you fuller breasts.

Breast Lift: Once your breasts have gone through the process of pregnancy and producing milk, they may suffer from stretching, leaving them saggier than before. A breast lift can help reduce the sagginess and lift them to where they used to sit.

Abdominoplasty: Women are blessed to have bodies that can undergo the stress of having a baby. Pregnancy can leave the body looking different from what it was before. For example, the stomach muscles can stretch making it harder for the tummy to be firm and flat again. Loose skin commonly occurs resulting in a sagging appearance. An abdominoplasty can tighten the muscles and remove excess skin, to help you feel more confident.

Liposuction: Liposuction is ideal for mothers who have areas of excess fat even after toning their bodies.

So, how soon after the baby is it safe to get a mommy makeover? You may want to consider holding off until you have lost the baby weight. You should also wait until you are done breast feeding for at least three months if you are considering breast surgery. Schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. David Motoki to learn about your options for a Mommy Makeover.

Can Eyelid Surgery Improve Your Vision?

Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that involves treating the upper or lower eyelids to improve loose saggy skin, wrinkles and bags. Blepharoplasty can result in a more youthful and energetic appearance of the eyes. In some men and women who have very saggy upper eyelids the blepharoplasty surgery can actually improve their peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty can remove excess sagging skin, muscle or fat to improve the aged and tired look of the eyes. In some people the major problem is sagging of the forehead and eyebrows rather than excess upper eyelid skin and these people benefit from a forehead- brow lift.

As people age the skin loses elasticity. The loss of elasticity and gravity can cause the sagging skin to collect on the upper eyelids. Many older adults consider eyelid surgery to help improve their vision. Their vision can be enhanced because the eyelid surgery can decrease any skin that may be blocking their view. There is a simple test to see how your vision can improve with upper eyelid surgery. Simply take your finger and lift up your upper eyelid or areas that sag. If there is a drastic difference, then it is time to consider eyelid surgery.

There is a whole world out there waiting to be seen. Schedule a consultation with Dr. David Motoki to help determine if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Should You Get Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is for men and women who want to reduce the size of their breasts. You may wonder why men would be included. Some men suffer from gynecomastia, a condition of breast tissue development.

-Health: This is the number one reason why someone may want a breast reduction. Women with large breasts tend to suffer from back pain that can limit their physical activity. Breast reduction can relieve the back pain and allow these women to become more active. Some health conditions can cause breast development in men and an evaluation is necessary to look for a cause.

-Clothes: For many women, it is difficult to find tops that can fit their larger breast size without looking loose or baggy in other areas. Breast reduction surgery can help make the breasts more proportionate to the rest of the body. Men with gynecomastia can also struggle to find clothing that fits properly and looks good.

-Personal Gain: Larger breasts can be a distraction or annoyance for many women and breast reduction surgery can improve their appearance and lifestyle. Many women become more physically active after breast reduction surgery and often lose weight. Men feel more comfortable at the gym and pool. Breast reduction surgery can enhance self-esteem for both women and men.

Discuss your concerns and questions with Dr. David Motoki, and together you can decide if breast reduction surgery is right for you.

Why Fall is the Perfect Time for Plastic Surgery

Having a plastic surgery procedure done any time of year is a win-win, but did you know that fall can be the perfect time to see Dr. Motoki for a procedure? Today, we will show you some of the advantages to having a procedure done at Body by Motoki this fall.

In the fall, there are three areas that are common for the season: body contouring, breast and face or neck procedures. These areas are common for fall because the season allows for an easy recovery with kids back in school, and give most people the body they are looking for before the holidays.

Often times, those that have a stressful job or life, enjoy knowing that having a procedure done will allow them the perfect opportunity to have a “staycation” to relax and recover. Being close to home also means your doctor is accessible for follow-ups visits and having family and friends around to help.

Fall is, of course, right before the holiday season. A time to impress family, friends and coworkers. What better way to impress than with a procedure done by Dr. Motoki? The holidays should be a fun and enjoyable time for you. Look your best and feel the confidence you deserve this year with our team at Body by Motoki.

FEEL CONFIDENT WITH A MOMMY MAKEOVER

Congrats, your bundle of joy has arrived. This is an exciting time in your life and many things are changing, including your body. For the last nine months your body has created life. It has stretched and moved, allowing baby to grow. But what happens when baby is born? You may find yourself staring at the “what use to be tight belly” to the “flabby stretched out saggy belly” you now have. Do not panic, there is help. At Body by Motoki, Dr. Motoki can give you a Mommy Makeover. This Mommy Makeover will make you feel like your old self, before baby. It includes sought out treatments for the breast and abdomen area. These areas are usually the most affected areas that change during pregnancy. The breasts produce milk which usually enlarge the breasts during pregnancy and during the time of breastfeeding. They too stretch out for this to happen, which can result in sagginess. If that is the case, a breast augmentation can lift and tighten them back to what they use to look like. The abdomen is probably the area that has changed the most. Your baby was growing and so were you. An abdominoplasty can remove excess skin and tighten the muscles. Your body will be back to pre-childbirth before you know it. You have worked hard the last nine months. Reward yourself today with a Mommy Makeover.

Laser technology is one of the latest advancements when it comes to skincare. Medical spas and cosmetic surgery clinics have installed this technology in their practices. One of the most popular treatments is facial laser resurfacing. For clients, this treatment can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and can give you a more youthful appearance. It can also help with sun damage, hyperpigmentation, improve discoloration, warts and enlarged oil glands around the nose. This laser is designed to help stimulate existing collagen. Most facial procedures only treat the epidermal layer (surface) of the skin.

Facial laser resurfacing is built with an ablative laser which can penetrate deep into the dermis and revitalize the look of your skin. How does it work? The surgeon will use the laser beam to start slowly cutting through the top layer of the epidermis, then eventually the laser will start digging deeper into the skin. The laser sends out short, pulsating beams of light on concentrated areas targeting impurities in the dermis. Because your skin will be cut open, it is recommended that patients take two weeks off and let the skin heal. Patients choose this treatment because it corrects sun damage, aging lines and will replenish your skin.

Is cosmetic surgery a safe way to get your pre-motherhood body back?

Becoming a mother can be one of the greatest accomplishments in a woman’s life, and the blessings of childbirth and breastfeeding are countless.  While the end result of pregnancy is awesome, one thing every woman can agree with is that saggy breasts and a flabby abdomen are outcomes of pregnancy that are not so great.
Stretching, sagging, and loss of shape are all words that can come to mind when looking in the mirror following pregnancy and it can be discouraging.  Just remember that you are not alone and many women face the same challenges.  A growing number of moms out there are now turning to mommy makeovers as a solution for restoring their body back to its pre-pregnancy state.
While giving the body time to normalize, and implementing diet and exercise can help, there comes a time when it may be obvious that cosmetic surgery is the only answer for feeling and looking normal again.  Mommy makeovers consist of a combination of surgical procedures including breast augmentation, breast lifts, liposuction, and abdominoplasty.
Depending on where your body has taken the biggest hit, you may choose to undergo just one or possibly multiple surgical procedures.  Undergoing surgical treatment may seem overwhelming at first, but keep in mind that many mothers out there have been through the same experience and a mommy makeover was the answer and may just be the answer for you as well.

Is concern over your physical appearance contributing to your postpartum depression?

Giving birth to a baby brings on a wide array of different emotions in a very short time and can greatly affect your emotional and mental well-being.  While you may be happy for the new arrival and basking in the joy of being a mom, there are also stresses and frustrations that can arise very quickly after baby is here.
Crazy changes in your hormones, loss of sleep, recovery from pregnancy, and a whole new schedule are just a few of the things that can take a toll on a new mom and cause feelings of depression.  Then of course there are the physical changes that have taken place in your body, and these alone can become a huge source of depression.
Even mild postpartum depression can be one of the hardest and most frustrating things to deal with after giving birth.  Don’t hesitate to seek help if you are feeling any dark moods, fluctuating appetite, or feelings of hopelessness or despair.  As time goes on you will adapt to the new addition, adjust to the new schedule, and hopefully the baby will be sleeping more.  But sometimes not everything returns to normal as quickly as it should, including your pre-pregnancy shape.
Physical health and how you feel about your body can play a huge role on mental health and your emotional well-being.  This is where a mommy makeover may be beneficial.  Utilizing cosmetic procedures to restore your body back to its previous, (or even improved) state can provide a huge source of confidence and restore a feeling of normalcy.  If physical appearance after giving birth has become a source of sadness and frustration, do not hesitate and take the appropriate steps to love that body once again.

A few extra steps can make plastic surgery recovery quick and easy

When preparing for any plastic surgery procedure there are some simple things you can do to prepare yourself.  The first step is to make sure you feel comfortable with the decision and are as stress free as possible.  Stress puts unneeded pressure on the body which can make it slower to recover.  Research relaxation methods such as deep breathing or meditation practices.  Remember that doubt the day prior to any procedure is normal and it’s best to plan on ways to cope with it.

Avoiding smoking and drinking two weeks prior to the procedure will also help speed up the recovery.  This can obviously be difficult for some people to do but will provide positive results for the sacrifice.

It’s also important to check your refrigerator.  This might sound weird, but healthy eating is critical to recovery so make sure you have the right foods before hand.

Arranging for someone to be close by during recovery is also important.  This will help limit stress and make it easier for you to rest.  They can also help with any emotions that can arise from surgery.  Doing these things will make it possible for you to enjoy your new look more quickly.

Covering up immediately after plastic surgery can help you feel more comfortable.

Many people are improving their appearance with plastic surgery and winter is a great time to go for it.  Most people are home more in the winter and able to take time off more easily.  The cold also limits many activities.  This makes it easier to recover from any procedure that is done.

Most any plastic surgery will require a small amount of time for recovery and cause some bruising which many may prefer to avoid being seen with.  Since people are less active and not out as often in the winter they are able to limit their exposure with the bruises.

If they do need to be seen in public there are some easy ways to cover the blemishes up.  Normal concealer can work wonders on lighter bruisers.  Products such as Dermablend to cover facial and neck marks or Kat Von D tattoo concealer which can cover large marks.  Erase Paste by Benefit can also work when using it in combination with foundation makeup.  If the bruises still need a little bit more then consider trying a mauve lipstick with concealer under.  Bruise covering kits are also available.

By trying some of these things people are able to still be active without having to continually explain what the bruises are from.

Why you should have breast augmentation

The overall physical appearance of a woman is vital to her self-confidence and self-image.
Choosing breast augmentation can help women feel more comfortable and confident.
This is a major step for women and usually one that creates a lot of positives. It is one
decision however, that needs to be made with self-awareness and a solid understanding of
every option available. There are many different reasons to get breast enhancement and
they vary for every woman. Many women have breasts that never develop (called
micromastia) and are basically two nipples on a flat chest. Breast enhancement helps
them feel more feminine and confident. They no longer have to fear shopping for clothes
that just will not fit. Other Women are simply looking for more fullness or better balance
in their figure. It is tough for Women to feel confident when they View their bodies as
having a deformity, regardless of how minor it may be. By choosing to get breast
augmentation Women are able to feel more comfortable in all their activities. They do
not feel self-conscience shopping, wearing swimsuits, and when interacting with people.
An important distinction to remember is that breast augmentation is different than a
breast lift. Having breast enhancements done will not lead to saggy or droopy breasts. When
deciding what is best for you make sure to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon who
is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.

You have choices when getting breast augmentation

Once you have decided to have breast augmentation there are some choices to make.
One of the decisions is which type of augmentation to have. There are three
augmentation choices: autologous fat, silicone implants or saline implants. Each choice
has pluses and minuses, but the most popular options are using either silicone or saline
implants. Enhancements done with autologous fat can work, but may carry more risks
when compared to silicone or saline implants. Potential factors such as being less
predictable, longer surgery times, and limited size increases are all reasons that make
silicone or saline implants the better choice. Which implant is better depends on each
person. Both types of implants have silicone shells, but internally are different. Silicone
implants are generally considered to have a more natural feel and look compared to the
saline option. This makes them especially ideal for women with a modest amount of
volume in the breast. However, the silicone implants may have a higher rate of capsular
contracture, they cost substantially more, and require a larger incision for placement
compared to saline implants. Another factor is that you must be at least 22 years-old to
get the silicone implants compared to a minimum of 18 years-old for saline.

Is it time for your mommy makeover?

Has having kids left you wondering what has happened to your body?  You are not alone.  Woman all over are joining the “mommy makeover” trend.  The mommy makeover is when women have multiple plastic surgery procedures designed to restore or even improve post pregnancy bodies.  This usually consists of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and breast enhancement, but can also include things such as buttocks lifts, liposuction and labiaplasty as well.

Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton, Moesha star Shar Jackson and Extra co-host Dayna Devon have all openly discussed having procedures done.  Most women who get mommy makeovers aren't striving for a new look.  Rather, they are simply trying to restore their bodies to their pre-childbirth (or a little better) condition.

There are benefits for patients who do the procedures together.  The one benefit is saving money. By combining multiple procedures the cost can be reduced.  The other major benefit is the recovery time is basically the same for one procedure or two.  These are some of the reasons the mommy makeover is so popular.  According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons mommy makeovers are increasing five times faster than other surgery procedures.  If you are frustrated with your post-pregnancy a mommy makeover may be just what the doctor ordered.

Look and Feel Younger

We hear every day that women have spent their years looking for that fountain of youth.  Although we have not discovered the fountain of youth, we have found that breast augmentation in Utah can be a great way to turn back the clock and have firmer, more even breasts.  Plastic surgery can be a great option to fight the signs of aging, but exercise and diet can help you feel younger and more energetic as well as enhance overall health.  Breast augmentation can offer you a symmetrical, natural look that can help your self image and make you feel more confident.

On top of the option of having a breast augmentation procedure in Utah, making sure you get adequate sleep each night can help you maintain your youthful appearance.  If you combine healthy eating, exercise, and getting enough sleep, this can limit the need for certain surgical procedures.  Water is also a key ingredient in maintaining your skin health.  Always be sure to drink the recommended amount of water to keep your skin supple and firm.  When diet and exercise are not enough, plastic surgery can offer options that can help maintain that youthful glow.  Injectables and skin peels are another way to firm the loose skin you may have causing wrinkles in unwanted areas.  For more information, visit our website here!

Tips for Patients Anxious About Surgery

Plastic surgery can be a great option for many men and women, but anxiety about the surgery may set in causing patients not to go through with the procedure.  There are many things you can do to set your mind at ease.  Meditation and breathing techniques have been proven to lower stress and anxiety in individuals.  Exercise is another great option to alleviate anxiety.  Make sure you avoid sugary, caffeinated beverages which can cause jitters and anxiety.  Getting plenty of rest is another healthy way to subdue anxiety.

Depending upon the severity of the anxiety, you may want to set up a consultation with your plastic surgeon in Utah to help answer some of the questions that may be contributing to your anxiety.  You can also seek the advice of a therapist on techniques that may help you relax before your procedure.  Remember, it is very normal to have some degree of anxiety before any medical procedure.  Talking to friends or family can also be helpful, especially if they have undergone a procedure in the past.  Keep in mind, most anxiety will subside after the surgery, but there are some cases that linger for a few weeks.  If your anxiety lingers, you need to talk to your plastic surgeon in Utah and discuss options for treatment.
